90s Entrepreneur Leading His Own Programming Team

Immigrating to Canada

Canada has recently introduced visa policies specifically for Hong Kong residents. Many Hongkongers, hoping to provide their next generation with more options, are actively seeking immigration information and consulting various immigration advisors to catch the "last train" before the policy deadline. With so many immigration firms in the market, how should one choose the right one? And how can emerging firms thrive in a competitive landscape?

Two post-90s entrepreneurs took over the Hong Kong branch of an immigration company a few years ago, but this wasn’t their first time being business owners. Oscar Yip, a graduate of the University of Hong Kong, was the founder of a former Science Park tech startup, which was also an accredited supplier for the government’s technology voucher scheme. With a keen market sense, Oscar and his friend Fergus Hu noticed the growing demand for programming and business plan writing required for the Canadian Federal Entrepreneur Immigration Program (SUV). They decided to move from the back office to the front lines, leading their own programming team while managing the company and expanding its business. Oscar became the director of the Hong Kong branch of Global Immigrate.

Bounce back from the lows and achieve remarkable success

Many people assume that the role of a company director is easy, requiring only major decision-making and approval of administrative work from subordinates. However, Oscar and Fergus also went through a period of low performance. “Business in Hong Kong is self-financed, and we are responsible for the decisions we make. In the early stages of the company, when we failed to meet the quarterly targets, we were reprimanded three times by senior management in Canada, questioning our management abilities and demanding monthly performance reports,” said Oscar. During the company’s poor performance, both of them became discouraged and even doubted whether the immigration industry was suitable for them. “My father thought this industry was ‘small and without prospects’ and even suggested that I leave early and return to the family business,” Fergus added. Fortunately, with continuous encouragement from friends, they re-evaluated their management strategies, successfully increased their performance by 300% in the next quarter, and moved to a new office a year ahead of schedule

The Secret to Successfully Attracting Customers

Oscar and Fergus personally host weekly seminars on various immigration plans, free of charge. These include hot topics such as the “Lifeboat Program,” “Canada Federal Entrepreneur Immigration Program (SUV),” and the “Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP),” to increase their opportunities to connect with younger clients in the market.

“We focus on the relatively low application threshold of the SUV, which is ideal for individuals looking to develop their careers in Canada. When the plan was first launched, only two people signed up for the seminar, which greatly affected the company’s morale,” Fergus continued. The two leaders quickly reviewed their marketing strategy and successfully attracted a younger generation looking to “immigrate to Canada,” including recent university graduates and those in their 30s and 40s who were concerned about Hong Kong’s future. Over three years, they consulted with more than 50,000 people and successfully helped over 100 families immigrate to Canada.

On June 8, the Canadian Federal Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship introduced two new measures for the “Lifeboat Program,” which immediately became a hot topic in society. “Global Immigrate” launched four free seminars within two weeks, including two seminars on June 25 at the Sheraton Hotel, which attracted over 100 people. Currently, every week’s seminar is attended by more than 50 people.

In addition to the “Lifeboat Program,” the Canada Federal Entrepreneur Immigration Program (SUV) is another popular project and is the company’s main immigration plan. Over 80% of current clients have chosen the SUV to immigrate to Canada. The biggest advantage is that applicants can continue to work in Hong Kong without having to go to Canada in person. Moreover, applicants do not need any business or management experience in Hong Kong. According to Oscar, the family can obtain a work permit within 4 months, and within 12 to 18 months, they can obtain permanent residency in Canada, all while staying in Hong Kong or elsewhere. “To be honest, many clients initially inquire about the Lifeboat Program because of its affordable price, but in the end, they choose other programs because we recommend the most suitable options based on their background and requirements. Some higher-cost plans end up being more cost-effective for the clients,” Fergus explained

Helping Hongkongers achieve milestones while staying true to their original intent

Immigration consulting is an industry that may seem glamorous on the surface. Perhaps out of every 100 consultations, only 5 people will eventually sign a contract. Immigration is one of the biggest decisions in life, and not everyone can make a decision in just two or three days. Even after making a decision, they may not choose us as their consultants,” Oscar said with a smile.

Facing fierce competition in the industry, Oscar and Fergus take a hands-on approach to everything. From the consultation and assessment to helping clients secure their PR (Permanent Residency), they and their professional team provide a one-stop immigration visa service, including school and job matching, landing and settlement services (such as real estate and medical insurance), aiming to help clients meet Canada’s visa requirements in the shortest time and at the most affordable cost. Their goal is to help clients realize their immigration dreams and start a new life in Canada with peace of mind.

Recently, many Hongkongers have been actively seeking consultations, and the number of clients is growing. Oscar and Fergus remain passionate about their mission. For every case, from consultation to obtaining permanent residency, they and their professional team provide one-stop immigration visa services, ensuring that clients can meet Canada’s visa standards in the shortest time and at the most competitive prices, helping them achieve the next milestone in life. “We hope that Hongkongers continue to uphold their resilient spirit. Years later, the descendants of Hongkongers will still shine in various fields,” Fergus added.

In the near future, Global Immigrate plans to expand its business to other popular immigration destinations for Hongkongers, including the UK and Australia, offering a range of immigration visas, overseas property services, and education services
