The rising stars in the immigration industry: Two La Salle alumni embodying the "La Salle spirit

Successfully expanded the group's market in Hong Kong

La Salle College, one of Hong Kong’s prestigious traditional schools, has produced many outstanding individuals and is renowned as a “cradle of champions.” In fact, bearing the title of a La Salle alumnus doesn’t necessarily guarantee smooth sailing in one’s career; it can even come with invisible pressure. Mr. Oscar Yip, the current Managing Director of the Hong Kong branch of Global Immigrate, shared that during his university internship interviews, being from a prestigious school attracted unwanted attention. He recalled, “The HR manager pointed me out in a peculiar tone, saying, ‘Oh, La Salle graduate.’” Although his life seemed smooth, having attended La Salle Primary School, La Salle College, and the University of Hong Kong, he also faced setbacks in his career. Reflecting on his first year after entering the workforce and starting his own business, he recalled the struggles: “My first company urgently needed outside funding, so I personally visited many business partners, but no one was willing to invest in a startup. Just when I was about to give up, a La Salle senior reached out to offer support and helped my company.” The company later succeeded, and Oscar paid back the loan with interest. The support from his La Salle alumni was more than just a school connection—it represented the brotherhood that transcended the school walls and deeply resonated with Oscar.

When Global Immigrate decided to expand its business in Hong Kong, Oscar was invited to become the head of the Hong Kong office. He also thought of his good friend from La Salle, Mr. Fergus Wu, “Fergus is my brother of nearly 20 years. I know him very well and trust him. When the company needed to recommend an executive director, he was absolutely my first choice,” Oscar said.

As part of the Hong Kong office’s management, both Oscar and Fergus have been personally involved in many aspects of the company, joking that there was no clear “off-duty” time. “In the early stages of the Hong Kong company’s operation, there were so many documents that required our personal approval. We worked six days a week, from morning till late at night, and this hardworking attitude continues to this day,” Oscar explained. When asked how the long-time friends manage work-related disagreements, Fergus added, “We rarely argue over business matters. Since we share the same goal of benefiting the company, even when we have different opinions, we always reach a consensus in the end.”

Both of them are young managers, so they do not have the traditional “boss” attitude. Instead, they often work alongside their staff in the office, analyzing cases and discussing the best immigration solutions for clients. “Effective communication is often key. We have internal meetings every week to set work goals and deadlines, and we review our progress accordingly,” Oscar Yip explained.

From free consultations to signing contracts and finally achieving permanent residency success, these two “La Salle boys” born in the 90s embody the “La Salle spirit.” “Our professional team has years of experience, solid expertise, and is truly capable. Unlike other immigration consulting firms, we never outsource any of the processes. Even though the number of cases we handle has been increasing recently, we still insist on having our own professional team handle every step, including the business plan presentation required for entrepreneurship immigration applications and the programming involved,” Fergus Wu explained.

For many Hongkongers planning to immigrate, the investment immigration programs’ entry barriers are too high, and the requirements for various skilled immigration programs are relatively strict, making it difficult to guarantee nominations. According to Global Immigrate, entrepreneurship immigration has become one of the most popular immigration options in recent years. The asset requirements for applicants are relatively low, and some countries, such as Canada and Australia, do not require applicants to have business or management experience. These countries only require submitting a prototype to support the entrepreneurial concept (often a website or app). The biggest strength of the Global Immigrate team is completing clients’ immigration applications in the shortest time possible, earning them a good reputation. “Our biggest advantage is saving our clients’ time, ensuring that we meet the required conditions in the shortest time possible,” Oscar Yip said.

Fergus Wu mentioned that over 60% of their immigration clients in Hong Kong are professionals with a monthly income of over HKD 50,000, including doctors, architects, and investment bankers. “Our clients are mostly local professionals and entrepreneurs. When choosing an immigration consultant, they primarily consider the success rate and the time cost. They want to achieve foreign permanent residency in the shortest time possible, so they can move forward with developing their personal careers in that country, while also allowing their children to enjoy free education.”

Rising Stars in the Immigration Industry – Two La Salle Alumni Embrace the "La Salle Spirit" to Successfully Expand the Group's Presence in the Hong Kong Market

For their age, holding senior positions at Global Immigrate’s Hong Kong office is no small feat, yet both La Salle alumni admit that they are still striving for excellence. Their goal is to lead the Hong Kong branch to shine even brighter in the industry, embodying the “La Salle Spirit” and achieving even greater success in the future. Oscar Yip stated, “Many La Salle seniors have accomplished remarkable achievements. Naturally, we cannot afford to fall behind. We aim to be the best in the immigration industry.”

Currently, Global Immigrate has successfully handled hundreds of cases, with daily consultations related to immigration, overseas education, and property investment in destinations such as Canada, Australia, the UK, the US, Ireland, and Portugal. “Every single inquirer receives the most professional advice from our consulting team. We assess their background and recommend multiple tailored solutions,” Fergus Wu explained.

Regarding the company’s future development, Global Immigrate is actively identifying high-quality overseas real estate projects, including a large-scale residential community development in Calgary, Canada, designed specifically with Hong Kong immigrants in mind.
