Citizen Benefits After Immigrating to Canada? (4)

Are there any citizen benefits after immigrating to Canada? Canada’s national welfare policies for citizens can be said to be well-known, and the “Immigration Paradise” by the majority of immigrants. What are the specific benefits?

  1. Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)

If you have little or no income, you can apply for a monthly income security allowance. The income here needs to be calculated including pensions, living expenses, wages, unemployment insurance benefits, and workers’ compensation or benefits from other countries. The less your income, the more income security allowance you will receive.

If you are married, your spouse’s income will be taken into account when calculating the number of GIS you deserve. GIS must reapply every year.

  1. Spouse’s Allowance (SPA)

If you meet the following conditions, you can receive a spouse allowance, which is used as an additional allowance for couples who only depend on an old age protection pension for their livelihood:

  1. Between the age of 60 and 65, and a spouse is a person receiving advanced age protection.
  2. The total income does not exceed the prescribed amount.
  3. Have lived in Canada for at least 10 years after the age of 18. SPA must reapply every year. This allowance can continue to be paid until you remarry or reach the age of 65, even if your spouse dies.

  1. Tax Return

Canadian tax residents must file tax returns on time each year. For low income, this is another income. The government will refund GST / HST. Not only citizens and permanent residents, but also work permit holders and international students in Canada as long as they meet the requirements of tax resident can get a tax refund.

  1. Other benefits

There are many other benefits in Canada, some of which are local benefits. For example, Ontario’s “Healthy Smiles Ontario” provides free dental treatment to low-income families. Everyone knows how expensive it is to see a tooth in Canada!

After the free education for all, the government will provide tuition fee reductions and interest-free student loans according to the different family situations of students. And people who work in Canada know how exaggerated tax payment is. Many people complain that the first half of the year’s income can’t be paid into their pockets! This is because Canada levies taxes on high-income earners subsidizes low-income earners, and tries to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor. So everyone can be treated for the sick and depend on the elderly.
